Details

Dayan Homestay Raja Ampat sits on the western shore of Pulau Dayan, a small island at the western end of Batanta’s north coast.

Eight private bungalows are available. Four sit on the beachfront, and four on land. All rooms sleep two on a mattress on the floor, but extra beds can be arranged if needed. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets are supplied.

Meals are served Dayan Homestay’s over-water dining room, which has fabulous sunset views to the Pam Islands. As at all homestays, free drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are provided there.

Guests share a bathroom building that has a western style toilet and bucket bathing in two separate rooms.

Electricity is supplied by a generator which runs from sunset until midnight.

Dayan Homestay Raja Ampat receives a 4G phone signal.

You’ll need to bring all the consumeables you consider essential for your stay, as Dayan Homestay is very remote. The nearest village (Yennyar/Marandan Weser) is about a twenty minute boat ride away, but only very basic supplies of the kind used by local people are available there.

Raja Ampat suffers from a total lack of safe waste disposal and recycling services. All homestays request that their guests please take their inorganic waste away with them when they leave, so as to not contribute to the growing trash problem in the islands. This is especially important at a small, isolated island like Dayan.

English is spoken at Dayan Homestay Raja Ampat.

Activities

Pulau Dayan was the site of one of Conservation International’s first Raja Ampat Marine Protected Area patrol posts. It’s easy to see why. The reefs around Dayan Homestay are some of the richest we’ve ever seen. Be sure to bring snorkelling gear, because Dayan is a snorkellers’ heaven. You do need to be careful of the strong currents that sweep around the island when the tide is running though!

Dayan also boasts long stretches of perfect beach, including sections where it’s easy to get in and out of the water without stepping on coral. Mantas, whales, dolphins, and turtles are all often seen, and dugongs are occasional visitors.

Dayan Homestay has hammocks available, and many trees that are perfectly placed to string one up and settle in to soak up the views and watch the day go by. They are sure to be popular, so if hammock time is high on your agenda, you might want to bring one with you.

As mentioned above, Dayan Homestay is extremely remote – but if you were heading to (or from) a Pam Islands homestay, Dayan would be the perfect place to spend a few days in the middle of the journey. Dayan Homestay can organise day trips to the Pam Islands, Piaynemo or any other place you might be interested in exploring.

The pure, clean waters of the bays around Dayan and Batanta are perfect for oyster cultivation, and there’s a pearl farm nearby that could probably also be visited if you were interested. Batanta jungle treks and waterfall visits can also be arranged.

If you’re interested in seeing one of the last remaining villages in Raja Ampat in which all the houses are traditionally built, organise a visit to Yennyar. Yennyar is the name by which everyone refers to it, but the village’s formal name is Marandan Weser. Yennyar is a ten minute boat ride from Dayan.

f you’re looking for a place to really get away from it all, can afford the extra travel cost, and are looking for excellent snorkelling and blissful downtime, it’s hard to imagine a better alternative.
