Details
Brar Homestay is located in a beautiful sandy cove at the eastern end of Kri and offers five private bungalows, each of which will sleep three people.
The bungalows are at the high water mark on the beach, are shaded by overhanging trees and have fabulous ocean views to Gam and Waigeo. Each bungalow has a covered verandah with chairs or bench seating. Bungalow bedrooms are equipped with a double and a single mattress, and all have sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets supplied. A room light switch and power outlets are also available in each bungalow bedroom.
Brar Homestay’s dining room is also located on the beach and enjoys the same great sea views. The large dining room table and bench seating provide an alternative to your bungalow verandah for relaxation and free drinking water, tea and coffee are always available there.
All guests share a two room bathroom building which has pebbled floors, a dip mandi bathroom and a western style toilet in the second room.
Electricity for charging your devices is available from sunset to midnight. Brar Homestay receives a 4G signal from the nearby Yenbuba tower.
The nearest village to Brar Homestay is Yenbuba on Mansuar and basic supplies are available there. It’s best to bring all essential items with you. Please though – take all your inorganic trash away with you: If you leave it at Kri you’ll just contribute to the rubbishing of paradise.
Only a little English is spoken at Brar Homestay, so if you have no Bahasa Indonesia, bringing a phrasebook would be a good idea.
Transport / Getting there
Brar Homestay offers two options for transfers between the homestay and Waisai:
- Up to 3 passengers max, by longboat, IDR 600,000 each way shared by passengers
- More than 3 passengers, by speedboat, IDR 800,000 each way shared by passengers

Hiking and beach walking
In addition to the jungle paths that lead to the panoramic views from Kri’s heights, long hikes can be made at low tide. You can walk the whole north shore of Kri, cross the sandbanks to Ransiwor and/or Yenbuba at Mansuar, and then continue west along Mansuar, cross the island past a lake and finish in Sauwandarek village on Mansuar’s south coast, where there’s also excellent snorkelling. If you like the sound of that, you’ll need a day with a morning low tide and to arrange a pickup from Sauwandarek!
