Details
Mikael Homestay offers a single family bungalow in a secluded cove on the northern Waigeo island of Boni.
The bungalow’s two rooms can be separately booked, so if you want the whole bungalow, then you will need to select “2 x Room in a bungalow” on the booking form above.
Both rooms sleep two on mattresses on the floor. Sheets, pillows, blanket and mosquito nets are provided. Bungalow verandahs are equipped with table and chair settings.
Meals are served in Mikael Homestay’s sand-floored dining room. Tea and coffee making supplies and drinking water are always freely available to guests there.
Guests share a 2 room bathroom building. One room has a shower, while the other houses a western-style toilet. Note that homestay showers only work when the electricity supply is on: Dip mandi (bucket and ladle) bathing is available at other times.
Electricity is supplied from generator and is available between sunset and about midnight.
Mikael Homestay receives a strong 4G signal which supports a data connection if you have the right Telkomsel plan.
The village of Boni/Warkori is about a 10 or 15 minute walk away on the other side of the island. Only basic supplies can be purchased in village shops. It would be best to bring all the supplies you consider essential with you.
Please do take any inorganic trash you create away with you when you leave, because there is no safe waste management infrastructure in Raja Ampat.
Very little English is spoken at Mikael Homestay: Bringing a translation app or phrasebook is recommended.
Transport / Getting there
Mikael Homestay guests need to fly from Sorong, via Waisai, to Kabare. (Note that Susi Air flights to Waisai/Kabare have a maximum of 15kg baggage allowance!)
Mikael Homestay does not offer Waisai pickups. If you select the booking form Waisai pickup checkbox, then Mikael will assume that you are requesting a pickup from Kabare.
Rather than select the Waisai pickup checkbox, contact Mnuway after booking to arrange your Kabare pickup. (Contact details will be provided in your booking confirmation email.)
Longboat transfers between Kabare and Mikael Homestay cost IDR 500,000 for 1 or 2 people, or IDR 200,000 per person for 3 to 4 people. The trip usually takes about an hour.
You will also need to pay for a taxi transfer from Kabare airstrip to Kabare harbour. Mikael will arrange this for you, but you will have to pay the taxi driver. The cost is IDR 200,000.

Public boat from Sorong or Waisai
If you have plenty of time, and want to minimise costs, you might want to consider travelling to Kabare on the fortnightly supply vessel Sabuk Nusantara.
See this Google doc for info about the Sabuk Nusantara. (Thanks Yusril! 🙏)
Activities
Bring snorkelling equipment, because there is plenty of good snorkelling around Pulau Boni.
Mikael Homestay can provide any kind of local tour that you might like to do, including Waigeo wildlife observation and village tours.
The remote and seldom-visited Ayau atolls can be easily reached from Boni.
If Mikael can not provide the trip you want, it might also be possible to join trips organised by neighbouring Mnuway Homestay.
