Details

Miguel Homestay offers four solidly built and well appointed over-water private bungalows.

The homestay is located in front of mangroves on the western side of the entrance to Gam Bay.

All bungalows sleep two on raised beds. Bedding includes sheets, pillows, bolsters and a mosquito net. All rooms have light switches and power outlets, and electric fans are provided.

The bungalows are accessed from a common boardwalk that joins them to Miguel Homestay’s dock, dining room and bathroom. Bungalow verandahs have a table and chairs, and panoramic ocean views to the south.

Meals are served in Miguel Homestay’s over-water dining room.  Power outlets are provided and free drinking water, tea and coffee are always there available for guests.

Guests share bathroom building that provides a western style toilet in one room, and a shower and bucket bathing in the other.

Electricity at Miguel Homestay is supplied by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight.

There is usually a good 4G signal at Miguel Homestay. Data connections are supported if you have a Telkomsel SIM.

Kapisawar village is about a fifteen minute boat ride away.

A note about rubbish: There’s no effective waste treatment or recycling facilities in Raja Ampat, so leaving inorganic trash like plastics and dead batteries at Miguel Homestay will only contribute to Raja Ampat’s growing rubbish problem. Please do take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave.

Only a little English is spoken at Miguel Homestay, so if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia, a translation app or phrasebook will be useful.

Activities

Miguel Homestay can provide any kind of snorkelling and sightseeing trip you want to do.

Located at the entrance to Gam Bay, Miguel Homestay is perfectly positioned to explore the karst islands, hidden waterways and rich marine life of the bay. Quite near the homestay are sheltered bays where moon jellyfish rise to the surface – sometimes in their thousands. In Gam Bay there are caves where roosting bats can be observed, including the seldom observed Raffray’s sheath-tailed bat. Orchids adorn the bay’s karst islets and stacks and the waterways conceal secrets like the “Hidden Lagoon” – a body of water that can only be entered via a cave and which shelters several intriguing species of marine life including soft corals, Synaptid sea-cucumbers and unusual jellyfish.

Great snorkelling (bring your own gear) over good coral is available in front of the homestay, and in Gam Bay. Beware aware of the tidal currents if snorkelling at the front of the homestay – they are extremely strong when in full flow.

Kapisawar village is nearby and a great day’s outing can be had there and in Sawinggrai which lies a bit further to the east along a well made concrete path.

Miguel Homestay’s central location is also great for visiting Arborek and Piaynemo.
