Tengiri Homestay lies on the southern shore of Pulau Arborek, with views across the strait to Pulau Mansuar and Batanta.

Two 2-room family bungalows and a private bungalow are available. The bungalows are all on the beach and have covered verandahs with tables and chairs. Bungalow bedrooms sleep two on mattresses on the floor. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets are provided. Bedrooms have room light switches and power outlets and fans are available if wanted.

Electricity is from the Arborek village supply and is available all night, but is usually off during the day.

Two dining shelters, wooden beachside recliners and a couple of table settings in the shade provide plenty of options for relaxation. Free drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are always available to guests at the dining shelter.

Guests share a four-roomed, pebble-floored bathroom building. The two bathrooms have bucket bathing, and a western and “hybrid style” raised squat toilet are provided in separate rooms.

Tengiri Homestay receives a decent phone signal, which usually supports a slow 2G data connection.

Basic supplies and cold drinks are available in Arborek village, a short walk away from the homestay.

English is not spoken at Tengiri Homestay, so bringing a phrasebook will ease communication. A translator can be found in the village if necessary.

    Transport / Getting there

Transport between Waisai and Tengiri Homestay costs IDR 1,500,000 each way. The speedboat used can carry up to 10 passengers and the trip cost is shared by passengers.

    Diving, snorkelling and sightseeing

Diving is available at Tengiri Homestay in conjunction with Arborek Dive Shop.

Arborek homestays are the closest accommodation to the famed Manta Sandy dive site, where you can also snorkel with mantas. Tengiri can organise snorkelling and/or sightseeing trips to anywhere you want to go, and Arborek’s small size means it’s easy to do the rounds of the other homestays to put together a group to share the costs.
