West Mansuar Homestay is, as its name suggests, located on the western tip of
Mansuar – the large island next to Kri. West Mansuar Homestay is a perfect quiet hideaway that’s centrally located to Raja Ampat’s attractions.
Three private bungalows occupy a secluded, west facing beach. All bungalows have verandahs with small tables and chairs, and unobstructed panoramic ocean and sunset views.
Bungalow bedrooms sleep two on mattresses on the floor. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets are supplied, and bedrooms are equipped with room light switches and power outlets.
Meals at West Mansuar Homestay are served in a dining shelter on the beach. There is a large dining table and bench seats, and free drinking water, hot water, and tea and coffee are there available all day long.
In common with other homestays, only Indonesian local style food is served at West Mansuar Homestay. Meals always contain rice and vegetables, with either fish, egg, or chicken. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary requirements, please tell your hosts as soon as you meet them.
Guests share a two room bathroom building. The wooden-floored building has a western style toilet in one room and dip mandi (bucket) bathing in the other.
If you can’t live without an internet connection, you’ll be pleased to hear that West Mansuar Homestay receives a fairly strong 4G signal. Electricity, however, is supplied by generator and is only available from sunset to midnight, so watch your device charge levels!
West Mansuar homestay is quite isolated, so be sure to bring any supplies you can’t live without. The nearest village is Kurkapa on Mansuar’s north shore. Kurkapa is about a fifteen minute boat ride away, but the village kiosks only sell very basic supplies of the kind used by local people.
Raja Ampat suffers from a total lack of safe and effective waste disposal and recycling infrastructure. Please be sure to take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave. You’ll be contributing to
the trashing of paradise if you leave it behind.
English isn’t spoken at West Mansuar Homestay, so, if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia, bringing a phrasebook or translation app would be a good idea.
Coconut crabs: This protected species is unfortunately hunted and sold at some places in Raja Ampat. Please don’t buy any. West Mansuar Homestay will refuse to cook them for you and will insist you release them instead. Transport / Getting there
Transfers between Waisai and West Mansuar homestay cost IDR 1,000,000 each way. A long boat capable of carrying 5 passengers is used, and the cost is shared among passengers.
Be sure to bring your snorkeling gear, as there is excellent snorkelling available at West Mansuar Homestay. Dolphins, turtles and blacktip reef sharks are all commonly seen, and manta point is a short boat ride away.
Raja Ampat’s iconic walking shark is also sometimes seen resting during the day in the small mangrove area next to the homestay.
West Mansuar Homestay can organise any sightseeing or snorkelling trip you want to do.
