    Details

Note: Blue Shark Homestay was known as Lalosi Homestay until December 2019.

Blue Shark Homestay lies on the southern shore of Pulau Arborek.

Two large private bungalows and a 2 room family bungalow are available.

The bungalows lie just back from the high tide mark under the shade of beachside trees and are nicely decorated with Papuan statuary and masks.

Bungalow bedrooms bedrooms sleep two on mattresses equipped with sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets, and all have power outlets and room light switches. Some rooms have real beds and ceiling fans. There’s no way to specifically request those, but we imagine that Blue Shark is working toward that standard in all rooms.

The bungalows have large shared verandahs with tables, chairs and power outlets for charging devices, and enjoy views across the Dampier Strait to Mansuar and Batanta.

Meals are served in a wooden-floored dining room and drinking water, tea and coffee are always freely available there for guests. A large table and bench seating is provided, as are power outlets for your devices.

Blue Shark Homestay has two separate bathroom buildings. One provides a dip mandi bathroom and western style toilet in separate tile floored rooms, the other is a large pebble floored room with dip mandi facilities and western style toilet combined.

There’s no shortage of places to relax at Blue Shark Homestay. In addition to the bungalow verandahs, there are a number of beachside tables, chairs and recliners, as well as another beachside shelter with a large table, bench seating and power outlets.

Electricity is from village supply and is usually available at all times except from 0700 to about 1000. Telkomsel’s Arborek tower provides a strong 4G signal.

Blue Shark is a two minute walk from Arborek village where basic supplies and cold soft drink can be purchased, but please take any inorganic waste like plastic, dead batteries etc away with you when you leave. There is no safe way of disposing of this kind of trash in Raja Ampat without causing pollution and contributing to the growing rubbish problem in the islands.

Basic English is spoken at Blue Shark, so bringing a phrasebook or translation app will help enrich conversation if you don’t have any Bahasa Indonesia.

    Transport / Getting there

    Activities

Blue Shark Homestay is situated on the edge of Arborek village, which has a jetty famous for its diving and snorkelling sights. Cultural performances are often staged in the village for guests of visiting liveaboard and cruise boats and local crafts are made for sale there. Arborek is a pretty village and offers plenty of opportunity for social interaction. Arborek Island is quite small and can easily be fully explored in a couple of hours.

Diving and snorkelling: Diving is available at Blue Shark Homestay in conjunction with Arborek Dive Shop.

Arborek is the closest you can stay to the famed attractions of Manta Point and Manta Sandy and the island is also handy to Piaynemo (Penemu) and the Pam (Fam) Islands for those wanting to explore further afield.

The beach at Blue Shark gives way to weedy shallows and then coral as you move away from the shore. Good snorkelling can be had at the door, but the village jetty is where the real action is.Blue Shark has 7 sets of masks, snorkel and fins available for hire for IDR 100,000 per person per day. Bringing your own fins at least is a good idea though, just in case none of the ones on hand fit.

Manta Point snorkelling trips including equipment hire are available for IDR 500,000. The trip is by longboat capable of carrying up to 4 passengers and the trip price is shared among participants.

Piaynemo day trips for snorkelling and sightseeing can also be arranged. The trip is by longboat (4 people max) and costs IDR 2,000,000 (shared).
