Details
Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay lies on Arborek’s northern shore, a few steps away from the vibrant Arborek village.
Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay has six over-water private bungalows and three private bungalows on the beach.
The bungalow bedrooms sleep two on mattresses on the floor. Bed linen, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets are provided in all bedrooms, and all bungalows have multiple power outlets and room light switches fitted.
The newer, over-water bungalows have glazed windows and solid, lockable doors. Their covered verandahs have a built in table/work/reading desk and wooden chairs. A sun deck with wooden recliners extends from the verandahs. A premium is charged for the over-water bungalows.
Meals are served in an over-water dining room, and free drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are provided for guests. Like all homestays, Raja Ampat Sunrise serves local style food, which always contains rice and vegetables with fish, egg or chicken. If you are vegetarian or have special dietary needs, please be sure to let your hosts know when you meet them.
An over-water sun deck is provided for use by all guests, although the number of recliners provided is limited.
Guest share a four-room bathroom building with western style toilets and showers.
Electricity is from village supply and is usually available 24 hours per day. Telkomsel’s Arborek tower provides a strong 4G signal.
Starlink Internet: Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay offers free use of their Starlink Internet service to guests.
There are shops in the village that sell food, basic supplies and cold drinks, but (as everywhere in Raja Ampat) there’s no effective waste disposal or recycling available. If you don’t want to contribute to the trashing of paradise, please take all your inorganic waste away with you when you leave.
English is spoken at Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay.
Coconut crabs: This protected species is unfortunately hunted and sold at some places in Raja Ampat. Please don’t buy any. Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay will refuse to cook them for you and will insist you release them instead.
Transport / Getting there
Activities
Diving and snorkelling
Arborek Dive Shop is a short walk away, and is happy to take Sunset guests diving at any of the famous Dampier Strait and Kabui Bay dive sites. Arborek Dive Shop also provides credit card payments for Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay.
Be sure to bring snorkelling gear, as the waters beneath Arborek’s jetty and the reefs off the island’s eastern end are special. Arborek is also the closest accommodation to the famed Manta Point and Manta Sandy sites where you can dive or snorkel with mantas. Walking sharks and blacktip reef sharks frequent the shallows beneath Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay, and there are also hosts of small critters sheltering in the nearby mangroves and seagrass flats. Entering the water at low tide requires care, but the jetty is a short walk away, and from there you can easily snorkel the dropoff back toward the homestay.
Sightseeing and Transfers
Arborek village often mounts cultural performances, and production of handcrafted souvenirs is thriving. Raja Ampat Sunset Homestay can organise boat trips to any sightseeing or snorkelling sites you might want to visit, and Arborek is small enough that you can easily drop in to the other homestays to find travelling companions to share costs with.
