January 2023: Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow has a double-booking problem. We are regrettably unable to offer booking services for the homestay until they can guarantee that all paid bookings will be honoured.
Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow is located near Yenbuba village on Pulau Mansuar and has two over-water private bungalows with great views across the strait that separates Mansuar from Gam and Waigeo.
All rooms have a double mattress with mattress covers, pillows and mosquito nets. Bungalow verandahs are equipped with table and chair settings, power outlets for charging devices and hammocks for relaxation.
Meals are served in an over-water dining room and tea, coffee and drinking water are freely available to guests there.
A sand floored bathroom building lies under coconut palms about fifty metres away from the bungalows and houses a western style pedestal toilet and dip mandi bathroom in separate rooms.
A deal with the owners of a nearby mobile phone tower sees electricity being supplied from the tower’s backup generator, which means that electricity is available at Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow from an hour or two before sunset until dawn. (Plus at any other time there’s insufficient sunlight to power the tower’s solar array!)
The proximity of the tower means that Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow receives a great signal. The tower was upgraded in 2016 to support 4G internet connections, but don’t expect true 4G speeds.
Basic supplies are available in the nearby village of Yenbuba, which is an easy ten minute walk away, but please do take any inorganic trash you create away with you, as there’s no safe waste management infrastructure in Raja Ampat.
English is spoken at Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow.

Private charters of the vessel described above are available if you want to design your own expedition with friends or family. Charters are available for a minimum 6 day/5 night trip. Prices start at IDR 35,295,000 for 4 passengers max or IDR 47,059,000 for 6 passengers max for the 6day/5 night length.
Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow has an inflatable kayak available for short paddles in the homestay’s vicinity, and a banana bed provides the perfect way to float away some hours – be sure to bring a hat and sunscreen! Village visits are easy, as the homestay lies beside the footpath that joins the villages of Yenbuba on Mansuar’s eastern tip and Yenbekwan which lies around a kilometre to the west of the homestay.
Yenbuba is a short walk away, Yenbekwan is more of a short trek, as the path crosses some steep ridges to reach the village, which lies about a kilometre to the west of Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow. There are side trails that lead to high vantage points on the coast, and the jungle is alive with birdsong in the early morning. It’s possible to continue westward past Yenbekwan to the low saddle between the north and south coasts of Mansuar. Crossing there will take you past an inland lake to the south coast village of Sauwandarek. There’s great snorkelling at Sauwandarek too, but unless you’re keen for a long day, you might want to organise boat transport to or from Sauwandarek to avoid having to walk both ways.
At low tide extensive sandbanks join the islands of Mansuar, Ransiwor and Kri and make walking between them possible. Even if you don’t cross to the neighbouring islands the banks are worth exploring. Scores of interesting creatures get trapped in small pools, making their discovery and observation really easy. Crossing to Kri will open up the possibility of other long walks too, but be aware of tide times otherwise you might have to organise boat transport back to Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow.
The sandflats between the beach and house reef at Mansuar Raja Ampat Bungalow – although not much to look at – are home to hosts of marine creatures. When exploring them or the mangroves nearby, please do your best to take the shortest route possible and always walk in the footsteps of those that may have gone before you, as compaction of the sand will destroy the homes of the many creatures that live and breed there. In addition to the above, Freddy can organise and guide you on any tour your want to make, from Bird of Paradise watching trips at nearby Sawinggrai to extended adventures in his home island of Batanta.
