Details
September 2022: Mambei Homestay has not yet reopened after the pandemic. Please contact us if you want to be notified when/if Mambei reopens.
Mambei Homestay is located on the north shore of popular Kri Island.
Mambei Homestay has three private bungalows on the beach. All bungalows have verandahs with tables and chairs and bedrooms with light switches and power outlets. Bedding consists of mattresses on the floor with sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets. The bungalows are set up for two people, but mattresses are available for 3 if required.
Meals are served in a sand-floored beachside dining room which has with a large table and bench seating and another table where drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are provided for guests.
All bungalows share a 3 room bathroom building which has running water. A single western style toilet is provided in one room, while the other two have bucket bathing facilities.
Electricity is supplied by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight, and Mambei Homestay receives a good phone signal. The signal will usually support a 3G data connection.
The nearest village to Mambei Homestay is Yenbuba on Mansuar. Yenbuba’s about a 10 minute boat ride away and basic supplies can be purchased in village shops.
Only basic English is spoken at Mambei Homestay, but you’ll be able to find a translator at one of the neighbouring homestays if needed.
Please do take all your inorganic waste (especially plastic) away with you when you leave. Leaving such trash in the islands will almost certainly see it eventually making its way into the ocean.
Transport / Getting there
Transfers between Waisai and Mambei Homestay cost IDR 600,000 each way. Transfers are by longboat, can accommodate up to 4 passengers max, and cost is shared among passengers.
Activities
Diving and snorkelling
Diving Raja Ampat’s best sites can be arranged in conjunction with Kri’s several homestay dive centres and excellent snorkelling is available at the door. (Bring your own gear and wait for high tide to make entering the water easier.)
Hiking
Long beach walks are possible at low tide, when you can also cross the sandbanks at Kri’s western end and continue along the jungle trails joining the villages on Mansuar. There are also paths on Kri that lead to the island’s heights, from where you’ll have panoramic views across the Dampier Strait and neighbouring islands. (Sturdy footwear recommended for the climb!)

Mambei Homestay can arrange snorkelling and sightseeing tours and transfers to other islands on request. The table below lists prices for some of the more popular trips. Prices are in IDR and are shared among trip participants.
