Details
September 2022: Kens Homestay has not yet reopened after the pandemic. Please contact us if you want to be notified when/if Kens reopens.
Kens Homestay lies between Mandarin and Walking Shark homestays in a sheltered cove just east of Sawinggrai village on Gam.
A two-room, beach bungalow with a dining room and verandah is a perfect for families. A private bungalow on land is also available. Bedrooms are equipped with mattresses on the floor, sheets, pillows, bolsters and mosquito nets. Light switches and power outlets are provided.
Meals are served in the bungalow dining room where free drinking water, tea and coffee are always available.
Guests share Mandarin Homestay’s bathroom building, which contains a western style toilet and bucket bathing. (Extra facilities will be added when needed.)
Electricity is supplied by generator and is available from sunset to about midnight.
Kens Homestay receives a good phone signal which usually supports a data connection. A dramatic improvement to data signal strength can be made by walking to the end of Sawinggrai’s nearby jetty.
The village of Sawinggrai is a short walk away, and both basic supplies and cold beer(!) can be purchased there.
Raja Ampat suffers from a lack of safe waste disposal and recycling services. All homestays request that their guests please take their inorganic waste away with them when they leave, so as to not contribute to the growing trash problem in the islands.
English is spoken at Mandarin Homestay next door if you have any communication issues.
Transport / Getting there

Activities
There’s plenty to do at Kens Homestay. Sawinggrai village affords cultural interaction and occasional performances, and a long coastal path makes walking to the next village of Kapisawar easy.
There’s excellent snorkelling at the door and from the Sawinggrai jetty, but you do need to be aware of strong currents when the tide is running.
Red Birds of Paradise can be seen displaying at dawn and dusk in the jungle nearby.
Kens Homestay can arrange snorkelling and sightseeing trips to all of the Dampier Strait, Kabui and Gam Bay attractions. Having 4 other homestays close by means you should have a good chance of finding other guests to share trip costs with. The table below gives prices for a few of the more popular destinations.
