Details
Dore Atri Homestay offers a large two room terrace bungalow with beach and ocean views.
The terrace bungalow is wooden floored and has a large verandah with a table, a bench seat and chairs. Both rooms are equipped with mattresses on the floor, sheets, pillows and mosquito nets and each room has its own private bathroom and western style toilet. Rooms also have shelves, mirrors, clothes hooks and power outlets and room light switches.
Meals are served on the bungalow verandahs and there are a number of lagoon and beachside seats provided for relaxing in the shade.
Solar electricity is used when the village supply is unavailable, and Dore Atri Homestay has a backup generator as well. There’s good phone reception at Yenbeser and several small shops for basic supplies. To avoid adding to Raja Ampat’s growing problem with inorganic rubbish, it’s best to always take any you reate away with you when you leave the islands.
You won’t have any problems conversing in English at Dore Atri – all family members have excellent English.

Activities
Dore Atri lies at the easternmost end of Yenbeser village, next to the lagoon from which the homestay takes its name.
There’s lots to explore around Yenbeser. Ask about the forest grove which still holds bamboo containers used long ago in rituals performed by Yenbeser’s doctor. There’s also wartime relics like the Kanji inscribed Japanese naval survey marker on Monkairi (Batu Lima), the remains of lost soldiers and caves that local people lived in during tiimes of battle in the islands.
The trees around the homestay are regularly visited by giant black palm cockatoos, and Birds of Paradise can be seen displaying a short distance away. In addition to a rich and varied bird life, the jungles around Dore Atri also shelter the iconic cuscus and a host of other mammals, reptiles and insects.
On the other side of the Dore Atri lagoon, a narrow, river-like inlet penetrates the island’s interior. The famed naturalist and explorer Alfred Wallace used this inlet to reach the island’s interior, where he camped while researching his theory of natural selection. Using descriptions from Wallace’s The Malay Archipelago, a recreation of his camp has been built on the site of his field station and there are also two Bird of Paradise display trees nearby. The boat journey into Dore Mkun alone makes a visit worthwhile.
Yenbeser’s long sandy beach is perfect for swimming and great snorkeling is to be had within a 10 minute ride (or swim!) of the homestay. Superb snorkeling can also be had at the nearby Friwen Island and Friwen Wall. Your hosts can organise snorkeling or sightseeing trips to any Raja Ampat attractions you might want to visit.
