January 2024: Blue Ocean Lodge is renovating and is currently not accepting bookings. Please contact us if you would like to be added to a mailing list for when Blue Ocean Lodge reopens.
Blue Ocean Lodge is a single, large, over-water bungalow hidden among the mangroves between Gam’s Sawinggrai and Kapisawar villages.
The bungalow is honeymoon hideaway perfection. A large, canopied and mosquito-netted bed sleeps two. Bed covers, sheets, pillows and bolsters are supplied. An extra mattress can be provided if required.
The bungalow has a split level deck that has panoramic ocean views and provides easy access to the coral wonderland below.
Meals are served on the roofed upper section of the deck. Drinking water and tea and coffee making supplies are always freely available to guests there.
A tile-floored, 2 room bathroom building provides dip mandi bathing and a western style toilet. The bathroom is connected to the bungalow by a boardwalk. Best to have a headlamp or similar to light your way at night.
Electricity is from the village supply, and is available all night.
Blue Ocean Lodge receives a strong 4G phone signal.
English is spoken at Blue Ocean Lodge.
The villages of Kapisawar and Sawinggrai are a short walk away along a concreted path. Supplies are available in village shops, and cold beer can be found in Sawinggrai.
Please don’t leave any inorganic trash at Blue Ocean Lodge. Inorganic waste (especially plastic) that is left at homestays will simply contribute to Raja Ampat’s growing rubbish problem.
Transport / Getting there
One way transfers between Blue Ocean Lodge and Waisai cost IDR 700,000. Transfers are by longboat that can carry a maximum of 4 people. Cost is shared by boat passengers.
Activities
Bring snorkelling gear to take advantage of Blue Ocean Lodge’s fabulous house reef.
If you’re a competent swimmer, and have fins, then excellent drift snorkelling can be had along the drop off while the tide is running. On a falling tide, enter the water at Sawinggrai jetty, drift westward past your accommodation and leave the water when you reach Kapisawar. Do the opposite when the tide is rising. Be sure to keep an eye out, and don’t drift too far from shore, because the tides run fast!
Birdlife is rich in the mangroves that surround the homestay, and Red Birds of Paradise display in nearby forest trees.
Blue Ocean Lodge can provide any sightseeing or snorkelling trip you want to do. Some favourites are listed in the table below. Prices are IDR, per trip, and include entrance fees where applicable. Trip cost is shared by particpants, and the boat used can carry a maximum of four passengers.
