Details
Batanta Guest House lies on Birie’s western shore.
Two over-water VIP bungalows are available (VIP bungalows are bungalows with private, ensuite bathrooms.)
The bungalows sleep two on a raised bed. The usual mosquito net and bedding are provided, and room light switches and power outlets for charging devices are fitted.
The bungalow ensuite bathrooms have western-style toilets, a piped water supply and shower. (Note that the piped water is only available while the electricty is on. A tub of water is available for times when the pump isn’t running.)
Meals are served in Batanta Guest House’s over-water dining room. Drinking water, tea and coffee are always freely available there.
Electricity is provided by generator and is available from sunset to around midnight. If you’re willing to pay a little more for the extra fuel required, the generator can be left running all night.
Only a weak and variable phone signal is received at Batanta Guest House. An internet connection is sometimes available, but you should expect to be offline while at the homestay.
The nearest village is Arefi. Arefi is about a 10 minute boat ride away. A decent phone signal and data connection is usually available there. Basic supplies can be purchased in Arefi’s small local shops if you run low.
It’s especially important at a remote homestay like Batanta Guest House that you take all your inorganic rubbish away with you when you leave. You’ll definitely be contributing to the trashing of paradise if you don’t.
Only a little English is spoken at Batanta Guest House. Bringing an offline translation app or phrasebook is recommended if you don’t speak Bahasa Indonesia.
