    Details

Mandarin Homestay is named for the Mandarin Fish that can be seen on the Sawinggrai reefs, and and offers four private bungalows. All are over water at high tide and have enclosed verandahs with a table, chairs and a hammock.

The bungalow bedrooms have real beds and can sleep 2 people. Pillows, bolsters, sheets and mosquito nets are supplied.

Meals are served in a dining room on the beach that is over water at high tide. Free drinking water, tea and coffee are provided there for guests.

Mandarin Homestay bathroom facilities are housed in a single building. There are two dip mandi bathrooms and a third room with a western style toilet.

Electricity is provided by generator and is available from sunset to about midnight. There’s a decent phone signal at Mandarin and data connections are possible. Signal strength can be dramatically improved by walking to neighbouring Mambefor Homestay at the end of the Sawinggrai jetty.

Sawinggrai is a short walk away along a concrete path and basic supplies are available there, but please do take all your inorganic trash away with you when you leave. Especially plastic and dead batteries.

English is spoken at Mandarin Homestay.

Please note: Coconut crabs are a protected species. Please don’t buy them. Mandarin Homestay will refuse to cook any you might bring and will instead ask that you release them.

Mandarin Homestay offers guests the ability to pay by Visa and Mastercard. Credit card payments attract a surcharge to cover bank fees. Note: There’s no guarantee that your particular bank’s credit card will be accepted by the processing bank. The facility is provided by Indonesia’s Mandiri Bank, so if you want to rely on your card for payment it would be wise to check that it will work in a Mandiri ATM before arriving in Sorong. See our Money, Banks and ATMs page for more information about access to cash in the islands.
