Nestled in the shelter of a jungled cliff on Kri’s north shore, Mambetron Homestay offer five large bungalows.

The VIP bungalows with ensuite bathrooms are located on the beach. All bungalows have a covered verandah with table and bench seating and a hammock. Bungalows are set up for couples, but an extra mattress can be provided on request.

All bungalows sleep two on raised beds. Sheets, pillows, bolsters and a mosquito net are provided, and all rooms have a small table, power outlets and a room light switch. Electric fans are also supplied.

Meals are served in a spacious dining building that also makes the most of the panoramic ocean views across the strait to Gam and Waigeo. The dining room is equipped with large tables and bench seating and free drinking water and tea and coffee making facilities are always available there. There are also power outlets provided for charging devices.

A generator provides electricity from sunset until around midnight and Mambetron Homestay receives a good mobile phone signal which will usually support a data connection.

English is spoken at Mambetron Homestay.

Activities

Nestled in the shelter of a limestone cliff, shaded by coconut palms and backed by the rich jungles of Pulau Kri, Mambetron Homestay is perfect for those looking for a quiet escape while still remaining close to the dive centres on Kri.

Diving and snorkelling

Mambetron’s house reef is rich and varied, with a dropoff into deep blue about 50 metres offshore. The dive centers of Koranu Fyak and Yenkoranu are a few hundred metres to the east and diving can be arranged at those for Mambetron Homestay guests.

Snorkellers need to bring their own gear. In addition to being able to freely explore the wonders of Mambetron’s house reef, snorkelling trips can be arranged as desired.

Hiking and village visits

At low tide it’s possible to walk the entire north shore of Kri. It’s also possible to cross the exposed sandbanks between Pulau Kri and Pulau Mansuar to visit the village of Yenbuba, where there’s great snorkelling below the jetty. The sandbanks at low tide are also a great way to see a range of marine creatures marooned in pools awaiting the ocean’s return. Be sure to wear sunscreen when exploring the sandbanks and be aware of the time if you cross to Mansuar. Stay too long and you’ll be trapped by the rising tide! Another possibility would be to arrange to walk over and have Mambetron come and pick you up at high tide.

The homestay can also organise a village visit and/or jetty snorkelling visit by boat if you want.

In addition to coastal walks, there are paths to a panoramic lookout above Kri’s western end. The lookout affords spectacular Dampier Strait views to Batanta in the south and across to Gam, Friwen and Waigeo to the north. The view to the west is across the western end of Kri to Pulau Ransiwor and the village of Yenbuba on Mansuar. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and carry plenty of water. Sunset views from the lookout are wonderful, but remember to pack a light to find your way back – night falls fast in the tropics!
